Hersonissos is a town and a municipality in the north of Crete, bordering the Mediterranean/Aegean Sea. This community is located about 25 kilometers east of Heraklion and west of Agios Nikolaos, 25 km from the international airport “Nikos Kazantzakis” of Heraklion and 27 km from the city’s port. The seat of the municipality is the village Gournes. Hersonissos is known as the most organized tourist destination in Crete. It is also known for its high quality hotels, conference infrastructures and the natural beauty of its coasts.

Kazantzakis Heraklion International Airport (airport code HER) is located 5 kilometers east of the city of Heraklion on the Greek Isle of Crete in the Mediterranean Sea. The airport is the 2nd busiest in Greece after Athens International Airport with service to 5 million annual passengers using over 50 airlines. The local bus stop is a few minutes’ walk from the terminal building. Taxis, hotel shuttles and rental cars are also available. The airport is named for the famed Cretan writer, Nikos Kazantzakis, who wrote Zorba the Greek. The city has several spellings including Heraclion, Irakion and Iraclion, so make sure all baggage tags have airport code HER for verification.

Directions from Heraklion Airport to Creta Maris
From the exit of the airport follow the national road with direction to Agios Nikolaos. Go straight ahead for about 20km. Turn right in the exit to Kastelli and then turn left for Hersonissos. Go straight ahead for 2 km and turn right for Hersonissos village (old road). At the time you arrive in Hersonissos (after 2km) you will see at the left side a medical center. Turn left there and at the first crossroad turn left. Go straight ahead for about 500m and you will see Creta Maris Beach Resort in your right side.
By boat from port of Pireus, Athens to Heraklion (Port Heraklion)
At least two ferry boats sail daily to Heraklio from Pireus. The boats sail in the evening (usually around 9-10 pm) and reach the destinations early in the morning (around5:30-6:00 am) after a pleasant 8-9 hour journey.
The ferries are very comfortable, their restaurants serve Greek and international cuisine and the voyage is something like a night sea cruise.
For night boats, boarding begins several hours before departure.There are also faster boats that leave Piraeus in the afternoon. They make the trip in about 5 hours.

From the exit of the port turn left in the traffic lights. After 500m turn right and go straight ahead. After 300m turn right to the national road with direction to Agios Nikolaos. Go straight ahead for about 20km. Turn right in the exit to Kastelli and then turn left for Hersonissos. Go straight ahead for 2 km and turn right for Hersonissos village (old road). At the time you arrive in Hersonissos you will see at the left side a medical center. Turn left there and at the first crossroad turn left. Go straight for about 500m and you will see Creta Maris Beach Resort in your right side.
